About this ebook

"I can think of the perfect way to keep you occupied and your mind diverted," she murmured. "Come to my room. If you're not too tired..."

Lust flashed in his gaze and then he caught her face between his hands and kissed her. "For you, my beautiful Artemis, I'd stay up all night."

Artemis Jones—"respectable" finishing-school teacher by day and Gothic romance writer by night—has never lost sight of her real dream: to open her own academic ladies' college. When Artemis is unexpectedly called upon by a dear friend, a fellow Byronic Book Club member, to navigate her first London Season, she comes at once. Who knows, perhaps she can court the interest of a wealthy patron for her school. As long as she can avoid her high-handed aunt's schemes to marry her off.

Dominic Winters, the widowed Duke of Dartmoor, needs a wife—someone who will provide him with an heir and help him to manage his spitfire adolescent daughter. The problem is, Society has dubbed him "The Dastardly Duke." Rumors are rife that he murdered his mad wife so his choices for a suitable bride are limited. But then he meets the ravishing and passionate Artemis Jones who might just be everything he needs.

"The perfect blend of sexiness and humor... Amy Rose Bennett has created a lush, vibrant love story, her characters sharing a fabulous sensual chemistry that fairly scorches the page."—Christina Britton, award-winning author

Such a beautiful romance! Artemis is the heroine we all hope we'd be if we lived in the 1850s. She's been saving for years to open a real school for young women, one that will fully educate their minds rather than simply prepare them for marriage, so she's on the lookout for a benefactor to underwrite the costs while her oppressive aunt is determined to marry her off. Dominic has his hands full with his teenage daughter. Widowed for nine years, he vows never to love again, but he needs an heir so he finally agrees to consider marrying again. A chance meeting with Artemis inspires him to ask for her help with his daughter, and this unlikely friendship very quickly becomes overwhelmed with insatiable desire. I could not put this story down. It was charming and captivating and informative on several levels. (How have I gone this long without knowing that Mary Wollstonecraft was the mother of Mary Shelley?) With a strong focus on women's rights, a few substantial secrets on both sides, and an intellectual connection that is even stronger than their physical attraction, this story checks all my boxes and presents characters that are as memorable as they are inspirational. There's a dastardly villain, of course, and it's not who the ton think it is. Justice prevails in the end, and we're treated to a very satisfying HEA. I loved all the literary references, and how they proved that even when times change, people essentially remain the same. This author is one of my all-time favorites for historical romance, and this book is a fine example of her immense talent. I couldn't have loved it more. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I just read my 1st book of Ms. Bennett's, "Curled up with an Earl" after seeing a recommendation from Lisa Kleypas, one of my favorite authors. I found the premise she employs with her female intellectual characters challenging the established mores of that period in history interesting and accurate. She manages to educate while deftly maintaining the romance, sexual aspects and humor that keeps me turning pages. I am always attracted to well done series that continue to explore the relationships between each story as well.So now I have to get this 1st installment!

Artemis doesn't want a husband. She wants a benefactor to fund her girls' school. The Duke of Dartmoor offers to do so if Artemis can tame his rebellious adolescent daughter. When attraction sparks, can they keep their relationship professional? This is smart and sensual with well-developed characters and a plot that keeps the pages turning. The audiobook was well done. I enjoyed the narrator's interpretation. Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
