Environmentalist fiction. Curious children accidentally join forces with their teacher to save an endangered animal.
This book is appropriate for 5th-8th grade students.

I read Hoot and Scat to my 7 & 9 yr old girls. They LOVE the suspense, mystery and how almost every chapter ends with a mini cliff-hanger Characters are fun, interesting and gave me a chance to give each character a accent. It's a tad enviro-preachy when it's really not necessary but tolerable.

This is a amazing book to read. It has suspense around every corner! I couldnt pui down! it's a good book to read when you have time because it took me a litle while to read it.

CARL HIAASEN was born and raised in Florida. He writes a column for the Miami Herald and is the author of many bestselling novels including Bad Monkey, Razor Girl, and Squeeze Me.
His books for younger readers include the Newbery Honor winner Hoot, as well as Flush, Scat, Squirm, and Chomp. Skink—No Surrender was Hiaasen's first book for teens and features one of his most iconic characters, the reclusive ex-governor of Florida now known as Skink.
