I have read this author's previous series on Viking time-travel romance. She was able to imbue those with humor and fantastic chemistry, so I had to check this series out even though I don't typically read a lot of pirate romance. I am so glad that I did. This book is well done. When a modern-day woman is on vacation in the Caribbean, she and her friend go to a pirate museum. Each is drawn to a particular pirate based on his painting. They try on these special necklaces that these pirates are supposed to have recovered as treasure. That necklace is the trigger to send our heroine back in time. Interestingly, the pirate that she is meant to save—as the museum keeper stated just before she left modern times—is the one her friends liked the look of! These two had sizzling chemistry. Even though the book takes place over a very short span of time (not even a day, I think), the author was still able to make their evolving feelings seem believable; he certainly had issues truly trusting her, but they worked together so well. Honestly, the way they felt about each other was so sweet. Each was protective of the other, emotionally and physically. There are a few attempts at intimacy and one full one. These moments showed the depth of their emotions and building feelings for each other very well. The author has created another fantastic time-travel romance series. The end of this book clearly leads to the next, and I can hardly wait to see what happens in that book!

Samantha Gilbert is a twenty-first-century girl. She has been hurt in love and wants nothing to do with it. She and her friend Lisa go to the Bahamas and while there tour a Pirate Museum. While there the guide giving the tour tells them about two pirates. They are friends, one is noble and wealthy and the other is poor. They had been hanged. Unless Samantha goes back to save him. James Barrow was once a noble but he left that life behind him. But he is tired and just wants a wife, children, and a home. He is tall and handsome, and she finds him delicious but she only wants one night stands. He was betrayed by a woman he thought loved him. I thought it was a little short. I had hoped to be immersed in the story but I wasn't. It was still a very good story and I love this author's work. The characters were good and seemed realistic. There were a couple of sentences that need to be straightened but minor. There was an easy flow to the reading and the descriptions were wonderful. I really enjoyed the book and recommend it for those over eighteen. I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

The first book in the Called by a Pirate series a well written short, time travel story with a very good storyline, the story flowed smoothly across the pages. I want to read Cole and Lisa’s story. This is Captain James “Prince” Barrow and Samantha Gilbert’s story. She goes from 2020, to Nassau, Bahama in 1718, after she tries on a jade necklace from James' treasure chest. Samantha must help James find the third clue to the treasure he is looking for, to be able to get back to the twenty-first century. There is suspense, drama, danger, twists, turns, and romance. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
