In a TIME TO GIVE, Ben Cassidy has lost everything. A former CEO of a company he built and benefactor of a soup kitchen he started, he was tricked by an unethical vulture capitalist who cheated him out of everything. Ben hit the skids, but now is trying to get his act together. He allows himself to go to the soup kitchen as a guest once a week because it’s the single thing left of his accomplishments.

Emily is a volunteer at the soup kitchen and attracted to Ben from day one. But she suppresses her feelings because he’s a guest. For months, she keeps her distance but one night, when she gives him a ride home, they end up in bed together.

That one encounter changes everything between them until Ben learns two things: she’s the daughter of the man who destroyed him. And she’s also pregnant.

“The dynamic of Emily being torn between her father and husband gives depth to an already well-written love story.”

“A TIME TO GIVE has all the stuff of a delicious Christmas love story.”

This story reminds me why I have been a fan of Ms. Shay for over 15 years. Her books are timeless, since her topics are just as real today as they were 100 years ago. In this story we have Ben Cassidy, a man who had been very successful and wealthy , but loses himself and every possession after an aggressive takeover of his company. Without anyone being the wiser , he has been going once a week for almost a year, to the food kitchen he started during his successful years, not as a volunteer ,but as a guest. There he meets Emily. They are attracted to each other, but have resisted that attraction until one night. A night that not only was filled with revelations, but also resulted in a pregnancy. The plot thickens and complications occur. It’s a story filled with family loyalties, lies, trust issues, deceit, misunderstandings, corporate conspiracies, and hurt. But it is also a story filled with hope, forgiveness, compromises one might take to make those we love happy, forgiveness, new starts , miracles and above all love. So, whether you are a new reader or a long time fan of Ms. Shay, this one will not disappoint you. I was gifted this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

A TIME TO GIVE by Kathryn Shay. You are drawn in from the beginning, meeting Emily and Ben at a soup kitchen. She is a volunteer but he comes to eat. Cassidy Place the volunteers have a professional distance from the guests. For Emily she is intrigued with Ben wanting to know more about him, to get him to talk. Ben watched Emily like a hawk, her eyes fascinated him, she always drew more out of him, then he wanted to give. Ben, had been a self made.business man,an investment went wrong, patent was held up. How will Ben feel when he find out that the connection to what he lost is because of her father. Now her father was selling, Emily is up in arms about it, all those people without jobs, and he didn't care, the money is all he cares about.Keeping him in line, was the only reason she worked for her father. She gave up her dreams, because of him. Dreams with Ben, a night to connect, till photos are noticed Can the hurt, betrayal, they both are feeling be cleared. A powerful story, of emotions that two people have buried their self in. A great story for all to read and enjoy. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

I received a free copy but voluntarily reviewed it. This is an older book that was republished by Kathryn Shay. However, as she explains at the end of the book, she has updated the story and changed some things. In fact, the characters actually had cell phones! A Time to Give captivated me from the first chapter. Both Ben and Emily meet in a soup kitchen; Emily works there, and Ben eats there once a week. Even though he does not feel that, based on his circumstances, he can get involved in a relationship. Ms. Shay does such a fantastic job of portraying their obvious feelings that the reader actually feels the attraction and the affections of Ben and Emily. It turns out that Ben was the CEO of his own company until his father lost it in a hostile takeover. Ben began to drink until he hit rock bottom. At that point, he decides to clean himself up and get back his company in the same way he lost it. Unfortunately, the Throughout the book, I was fascinated with the couple’s struggle to find a way to love each other in spite of Ben’s hatred for her father. I was often so caught up in their s situation realistic that there were moments when I, actually cried in this book. The characters were also believable even though they were born wealthy. There were times when I loved Ben, but there were also times when I was so angry with him that I wanted to slap him. Emily never grovels or kowtows to anyone - neither the man she loves nor the father she adores even though she knows he is not always “nice guy.” The author did such a skillful job creating the conflicts, that I had no idea how she was ever going to be able to accomplish to accomplish the happy ending. I love this book, and I would definitely recommend it!
