i started this book with visions of a new voice akin to tom robbins/kurt vonnegut -ish teachings, and while elements of style and quirkiness are similar it's not quite the earth shattering realizations i was expecting. that or maybe my hunger for those teachings has changed. that being said- its a pretty fun read and an interesting look into what the life of jesus may have been like until he was 33. humorous and a good story line- i thoroughly enjoyed this journey in time and imagining and all in all feel pretty bad for the fellow and wish people had just listened to what he was trying to say. historically accurate in part; pure fiction in others- the differences between explained in an end note. and also a good brush up on apostles and gospels and visions of sunday school and communion in my head- a nice light read!

What makes the humor of this story work it actually makes the you feel for the problems of being the Messiah. Yeah, no pressure there! Given you have father who only answers your questions when you least expect it. Biff really is a true bro to him, and that really makes you care for both. That also allows for the humor to flow. Oh... and the angels are awesome :-)

In all my years growing up as a Catholic, no text has resonated like this. In all its humor and light-heartedness, I found a meaningful connection to Jesus that allowed me to reconnect with faith. I started the novel laughing aloud, and ended my read crying. It's nice to visualize Jesus as the human he was.
