　　一直以來，有關校長學校生活的有系統描述、分析與詮釋之文獻並不多。本書以校長學為名，嘗試以民族誌的研究取向，描繪校長在學校的工作、角色與職責，並結合文獻所呈現之校長領導、管理作為，統整剖析校長在變遷社會中，其工作所呈現的性質、所扮演的角色，以及所必須關注的重要任務議題。　　本書特別強調校長扮演反思實踐者之角色，以銜接校長學的理論與實務，並詳細呈現校長如何落實課程、教學、變革，以及倫理道德的領導。在最後一章結語部分，作者並提出中庸式動態平衡領導的概念，強調不走極端、同時兼顧發展，但卻有重心（強調點）等領導特性，期能對校長學之理論與實務，做出貢獻。
