If you read the first book in the Blue Justice series, you were probably as excited as I was to get my hands on this one. Eason has a way of drawing me in, and holding me captive until the very last page. I try to tell myself not to read the teaser for the next book, a.k.a. the torturer, but I can’t seem to obey. So here I am yet again anxiously awaiting the next Blue Justice book. This series follows the St. John family as they fight for justice and watch out for each other. Called to Protect focuses on Chloe and her amazing dog Hank. Working as a team they are unstoppable, too bad they can’t be everywhere at once. When a case hits close to home they will do everything in their power to find those responsible. Blake doesn’t know if life will ever get back to normal. Having a teenager is never easy, but he would take that any day over worrying if he can find his daughter before it’s too late. Someone is taking young girls and Blake will stop at nothing to put an end to this nightmare. Knowing he can’t do it alone, his best friend creates a task force of experts in all different areas, which luckily happens to include Chloe and Hank. Will the team be enough to rescue the newest batch of missing girls? This book was so unique. Having human trafficking be such a huge part of the story was hard sometimes. Having two girls of my own, it hit close to home. I loved reading about the bravery these girls displayed in the face of what would have been terrifying. Eason transported me there and had me biting my nails several times. I enjoyed getting to know Chloe and Blake more, and can’t wait to see everyone again. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Suspense. I had the hardest time putting this book down, and know you will as well. I was kept on the edge of my seat having no clue what could possibly happen next. I received a copy of this book from Revell Publishers and was in no way forced to post a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Oh, my! Lynette Eason’s second book in the Blue Justice series, Called to Protect, is even better that the first one. How does she keep doing that? From gut wrenching kidnap of Penny St. John to the huge pileup where Hank shows all his K-9 skills to the wrap it up, tie it with a bow ending, I was totally engrossed in this book. As in all Eason’s books, the pace is fast and the storyline complex. Tug on the heart-strings, grip you by the feels action and characters. Some of the scenes were so intense, I almost (I said almost) busted out my tissues. I only stopped reading for work and church. The heart-breaking subject of human trafficking is dealt with sensitively, without being graphic. The subject matter was depicted realistically without using offensive language or descriptions. But, it wasn’t sugarcoated either. Eason shows how cheaply traffickers hold human life and even the relationships between themselves. To them, everyone is expendable. Everyone. Eason handled this tough subject with honesty and compassion, without sacrificing any of the reality. Her skill and expertise truly shine here. Something that Eason does better that almost any author I’ve read, is family dynamics. This book has several going on. The main family, the St. Johns, is such a loving, fun family, but still real and believable. Blake’s relationship with his daughter is complex, as is his relationship with his brother and father. The family dynamics of the other characters provide the fulcrum on which this novel turns. So, um, yeah… you’ll have to read it to find out about that! Another dynamic that Eason brings to this novel is the one between Chloe and Hank. What a duo they are! Called to Protect shows us a depth in the relationship between an officer and their K-9 that I had never understood. The mention of the draft horse style collar was a great touch. At the start of the book, Chloe has sworn off of all males, except Hank. Eason develops the relationship between Chloe and Blake slowly and sweetly throughout the novel. Eason’s teens are always so well done and Rachel, Blake’s daughter, is no exception. She is so strong and brave and incredibly smart under pressure. And, yet she’s so very vulnerable. Some of the parts written with her actions were almost (Remember, when I said “almost”?) tissue moments for me. The presence of God in the lives of each of the characters was drawn with a delicate touch. No preaching; no miraculous revelations; just the acknowledgement that God was needed, was present and did care. I highly recommend this book along with the first book in the series, Oath of Honor. It could be read as a standalone, however characters and events from the first book do appear. It is a series about a family. Plus, it was a neat touch to have Daniel Matthews from Eason’s Without Warning appear in this book. I can barely wait for the next book (Novella? Did I hear something about a novella coming soon?) I received an Advanced Reader’s Copy from the publisher in return for my honest review. This is that review. Now, go read the book!

This is book two in the Blue Justice Series. Since this is the first in the series I have read and had no trouble understanding what was going on, I would say it is a stand alone book. However, now I want to go back and read book one. I fell in love with the St. John family and want to learn more about them. I love the writing style of Lynette Eason. It is full of suspense, mystery, family and romance. Chloe St. John is a beautiful K-9 cop. When she starts helping Blake MacCallum,, a handsome US Marshal, the sparks that follow are great. Chloe and Blake must put their feelings aside till they can figure out the human trafficking ring that effects both families. I look forward to reading book three.
