Juhász Gyula(1883-1937) a Tisza menti táj és nép, a dolgozó ember iránt érzett szeretet, az emberi nagyságba és alkotó erőbe vetett hit tragikus sorsú lírikusa. Postatiszt fia volt, tanár lett, 1917-ig kisvárosokban tanított, ekkor lemondott állásáról, és hazaköltözött szülővárosába, Szegedre. Ettől kezdve állandó gondokkal küszködve élt. Nagyváradon összeismerkedett Adyval, s ez a barátság a haladó radikális irodalom oldalára állította. Egy ideig a szegedi színházat igazgatta. Ő fedezte fel és támogatta elsőnek József Attilát. Mellőzöttsége, magánya egyre jobban megviselte idegrendszerét, s öngyilkos lett.
