I love a story set in medieval times so I was especially excited to read this one. It starts out pretty fast with Darreyth having to flee into the night with the threat of danger looming over her sister’s home. Unfortunately, she is sent directly into the path of the very army that they were trying to protect her from. Cull rescues her from a horrible fate at the hand of paid mercenaries and thinks she is nothing but a child, covered in mud. I love when the hero doesn’t recognize the heroine for who or what she is so I settled in to enjoy it. Once Cull lays eyes on the grown woman Darreyth, he’s a goner though he continually reminds himself to get it under control. It doesn’t work. He falls hard and fast, as does she. And that is where I felt a bit disconnected to the story. They are falling and yet they’ve barely spoken. There is internal monologue showing strong feelings but nothing to support those feelings. I did try to push it aside but I couldn’t help that I didn’t feel real chemistry between these two. And I like an insta-love story but, in my opinion, it just didn’t work with this one. However, I did like the intrigue that is the focal point of the story. I was curious how this couple would find their HEA since Cull was pretty much assigned to kill Darreyth’s family. There was a bit of a twist that, while it didn’t completely surprise me, was a very nice touch. This is a fast paced read with some nice secondary characters. The villains were within reason of the era while the other characters help to lead the story where it needed to go. There were still some loose ends that didn’t get tied up and I’m not sure if they will be dealt with in future books. The steam was pretty intense and the humor low. The angst was medium first due to the heroine being a “prisoner” as well as her secret and then due to the battle between good and bad. Overall, this was a nice read and I would certainly try another book by this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and St. Martin's Press. That was really good! Fast paced, interesting, sexy and sweet, action packed, and intrigue, so something for everyone. I hadn't read the other two stories, but had no trouble following along with the connections to existing characters Cull remembers being taken from a slave ship and trained to be a warrior. He is knighted, but has no name, and is a King's Guard, and takes that very seriously. He is travelling with his army against an enemy, so he has been told, of the King. He has been told this by his saviour, known as the Wolf, wh is feared for all the ruthless actions he takes Derryth had been on her way to safety when intercepted. Cull saves her from ruffians, and treats her well. Feelings develop between them, but fate intervenes. Theirs is not a simple journey, or a straight line to get to their HEA, but the twists and turns and bumps along the way only push our story further along Overall, a most enjoyable read!

Cull The Nameless was a fierce warrior and an honorable man, he was also a slave. Although Cull was a King’s guard and Knighted, he never forgot where he came from, and who the man was, who freed him from a slave ship. But this man was not kind, not even a little, nor did he buy Cull out of the goodness of his heart. No, this sinister trickster, known as the Wolf, had devised a plan, so evil that he could pass for the devil himself. Cull The Nameless didn’t think anyone could love him, until he met Derryth MacClaren. She loved him even though he had no treasure or surname. Cull’s greatest desire was to have a family, a name, and a piece of land, that he could call his own. So when the Wolf, dangled Cull’s greatest passions before him, Cull was more than tempted. But, the plan Wolf wanted him to carry out, would destroy his relationship with Derryth, and everyone whom she loved. How could he do that? This book kept my interest from the very first page. It’s a captivating, romantic, historical fiction tale, well-written and engrossing. If you enjoy adult romance, historical fiction and fabulous writing you’ll love this book.
