Breakaway is the first book in a new series by Ali Parker and being a fan of her other work I knew I would enjoy this book. Mixing a sports romance with a college and a friend’s sister theme, I liked the fact both main characters had their own sports, Lucas as hockey captain and Aubrey as a ballet dancer, rather than just the male which is so common these days. Told from both Aubrey and Lucas’ points of view, these two strong characters are well developed and continued to be developed over the course of the book. Having known each other for a few years, albeit from a slight distance, as a reader you are instantly able feel there is a strong connection between the two characters and the alternating points of views adds a well rounded feel to the story and characters. Breakaway moved at a steady pace and definitely didn’t feel like it dragged out anywhere for too long, allowing time for the relationship between Aubrey and Lucas to be developed without feeling rushed, especially while dealing with personal issues. Breakaway had a solid plot that felt well thought out and the writing style was simple, clear and easy to follow but with enough description to allow you to visualise the scenes clearly. The sexual content within is well written but does not take over the plot in anyway. One thing I really liked about the book was there was a maturity to relationship situations, which in other books would have been handled in typical style of immaturity. However, although there is a sort of HEA, I personally felt it didn’t fully end as the ending left bit of a question about future of the couple; hopefully it may be answered in follow up books regarding other couples. The book can be read as a standalone and all is basically tied up for Aubrey and Lucas but like I say for me it was missing that final ending for a standalone in a series.
Overall, if you enjoy steamy sports romances or even a friend’s sister romance theme and are looking for a book to pass a few hours, definitely consider this book!

This was hot with a side of sweet and humor for dessert! I was sucked into Pro-U from the first Chapter. Lucas White is captain of the Providence U hockey team. He's sexy as sin, smart and the main player in every girl on campus fantasies! With his final season for the Friars winding down he needs to start thinking about his future and the possibility of going pro. What he doesn't need is to start fantasizing about his best friend’s sister! Aubrey Moore is studying classical ballet at the University with hopes of making it on a production company. She’s also the head ice queen for the Friars, not because she likes it, but because it’s the only way she can spend time with Lucas. She's been in love with Lucas for 3 years and despite the fundraisers, parties and keeping the hockey team in line, he continues to keep her in the friend zone, despite the attraction between them. A biology project and bugs brings them together and the sparks that has always been between them ignite! Aubrey soon learns the pain Lucas hides from the world and Lucas realizes that Aubrey is the only woman who understands how the pressure parents, life and circumstances hinder one's own sense of self. As they let the masks they hide behind fall away, they succumb to their lust and attraction and steam up the sheets! With everyone forcing them to do what they feel is 'best' for them; Lucas and Aubrey must make difficult decisions. But are they now strong enough to go after what they want and truly makes them happy? And will that future include one another or will they let the other go in order to go after their dreams? I think this may be a new favorite of mine by Ali Parker. I fell in love with the whole gang from Pro-U! Ali has created characters that make you laugh, cry and feel right along with them. I cannot wait for the second book and see what lies ahead for the playboy Jacob!

This one of those books that once you start reading you can't put it down. Lucas is trying to be the perfect son/teammate in everything he does except for love, while living in his dead brothers shadow. He will be graduating and going Pro in a few months, he also secretly in love with Aubrey. Aubrey is beautiful, independent, strong young woman, and a ballerina who also happen to be Queen Bee of the Ice House. She has been in love with Lucas every sense they met 3 yrs. Aubrey still has a year left in sch
