About this ebook

"Video Games Are Not Art", or so it is said.

Of course, this contention could be left well enough alone, and the video game industry would continue to make its yield – (an output that surpassed Hollywood’s gross income many Academy Award ceremonies ago). But should it be left alone, should it even matter who or what is artistic or what is art?

The author addresses the notion with a series of counter-attacks upon the common arguments and usual offenders who deny this status to the world's most lucrative form of entertainment. Addressing each of the typical criticisms of the artistic merit of games, "Are Video Games Art?" is a comprehensive deconstruction of these complaints, and provides sound, down-to-earth arguments for the positive position.

Re-issued with a new Afterword and update by the author: 15 June 2013.

About the author

Marc Ryan originates from that jewel of the Australian eastern coast, Byron Bay. Publicly educated amid that town's now-infamous alternative culture, Ryan pursued interests in music, beach culture, beach music, and music culture. Brisbane, Queensland would expand Ryan's interest in the written word, and it was here that he directed his mind in that pursuit (while his body remained immersed the capital's notorious humidity).

Marc Ryan writes non-fiction, ranging on any subject or issue, with the intention of Never Being Boring, never divorced from fact, and always enlightening. Whatever the topic, it is the urge to write for interest's sake that commenced and maintains his determination to write, all sustained by his ability (and desire) to write with utmost clarity.
