About the author

Gillian Somerville-Large was born in Switzerland

in 1934. Her childhood was spent in India, the

United States and Italy before she read Modern

Languages at her father’s old university, Trinity

College, Dublin.

For many years she reviewed books in the

Irish Times and the Irish Independent.

A selection of her poetry was published in 2000

in Ink Bottle - New Writing from Kilkenny edited

by Mark Roper. Ightermurragh in the Rain is

Gillian’s second collection of poems from

Lapwing, her first being Karamania, 2011.

She lives with her husband, the writer Peter

Somerville-Large, in Ullard, Co. Kilkenny
