Looking for a Cowboy Heart of Texas #5 Donna Grant St. Martins Press, Oct 2020 368 pages Contemporary Cowboy Romance Provided by Pub and NetGalley ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars Triggers: Fetal abduction, Child trafficking for illegal adoptions The cover is attractive. It’s a photograph rather than a painting or drawing. I’m not sure how I feel about these photographed covers. We see a lot of them lately and somehow they just seem so bleak. This one has great colors, though, so I certainly won’t take anything away from it for being a photo. We do have that issue of the size of the title vs the size of the author’s name, but I won’t quibble over it since it’s so nicely placed right there in the middle of the big blue sky. This was a story that was rather hard to read at times. On one hand, you had a young couple and extended family happy because they were finally getting a baby to love. Everyone was so happy for the young couple, so invested in the whole event. On the other hand, you have a young woman who hunts child traffickers. She is convinced that this adoption is illegal and is determined to stop it. She is a former police officer whose sister was the victim of a fetal abduction. She has done her research and the evidence has led her to this couple and this child. But something isn’t right. Somewhere something has gone wrong. And someone keeps watching her and making attempts on her life. Cooper and his friends decide to help Marlee stop these people. And Cooper is determined to keep Marlee safe. If he can stay alive himself. The people Marlee and Cooper were dealing with had no scruples, no conscience. All they wanted was money and they were willing to kill anyone who got in their way in the slightest. It made it a rough story at times, but it was a satisfying one in the end. Recommended.

More action than romance, this story will keep you up well past your bedtime. After a very strong yet heartbreaking opening, our story starts ten years later with Marlee, a former cop turned PI investigating black market baby kidnappings, and Cooper, an easy-going cowboy with a solid group of lifelong friends. We got to know a bit about Cooper in the earlier books, and he's as charming and down-to-earth as any girl can hope for. Marlee is haunted by the one case she can't solve, which motivates her to keep pushing against the odds to solve the few she can. These two have chemistry for days and their romance has nary a hitch, as far as their feelings for each other go. The main snag is keeping at least one step ahead of the killer on her trail, which leads to enough action and suspense to keep the reader on the edge of their seat throughout the book. (Content warning: you will learn enough about black market baby selling to make you lose a few nights sleep pondering how much was fiction and how much is probably true.) I loved seeing all the familiar faces pulling together to help out a friend in need, and I especially loved getting updates on the HEAs of the couples from earlier books in this series. This book crashes into a heart-pounding HEA of its own, though it does leave a couple unsolved cases in its wake that I wish had been resolved. The writing was superb throughout, making this book truly unputdownable. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Marlee and Cooper’s suspenseful love story in Looking for a Cowboy by Donna Grant, book five in her Heart of Texas series, was truly enjoyable. Marlee Frampton became a P.I. after the murder of her pregnant twin sister while her baby kidnapped. Now she investigates for other families in similar situations. Her latest case has taken her to Clearview, Texas, to investigate the Harpers, who might be involved with a shady adoption agency. Cooper Owens is drawn to the stunning stranger, who has been asking questions about his friends; questions no one should be asking. He doesn’t believe his friends could be involved in anything so sinister and decides to help Marlee find the truth as well as keep her safe. As they search for the truth and the killers, they find themselves amidst a killer without a conscience who forces them to a face life or death situation. Marlee and Cooper are attracted to each other from the beginning. They share a strong magnetism and off the charts chemistry that would burn up the sheets. Their attraction is strong enough to help them find a love that is soulful and fulfilling; matched together like puzzle pieces fitting together for perfection. Ms. Grant wrote an amazing, passionate, suspenseful and emotional story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sizzling chemistry, amusing banter, scary situations, and strong characters, giving Marlee and Cooper a chance at true love and a forever together. I highly recommend Looking for a Cowboy to other readers. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
