About this ebook

Dear Lady Truelove . . .

My twin brother and I need a new mother, though Papa insists he’ll never marry again. Must be nice, brainy, and fond of cats . . .

Lady Truelove may be London’s most famous advice columnist, but James St. Clair, the Earl of Kenyon, knows his wild young sons need a tutor, not a new mother. They need a man tough enough to make his hellions tow the line, and James is determined to find one.

Miss Amanda Leighton, former schoolteacher and governess, knows she has all the qualifications to be a tutor. And while female tutors are unheard of, Amanda isn’t about to lose the chance at her dream job because of pesky details like that. If Lord Kenyon insists on hiring a man, then she has only one option . . .

Jamie isn’t sure what to make of his new employee, until he realizes the shocking truth—beneath the ill-fitting suits, his boys’ tutor is a woman. An unconventional, outspoken, thoroughly intriguing woman. Despite Amanda’s deception, he can’t dismiss her when his boys are learning so much. Yet Jamie, too, is learning surprising lessons—about desire, seduction, and passionate second chances . . .

It’s rare that I use ‘charming’ as an adjective to refer to a book or series, but Guhrke’s Dear Lady Truelove series are simply that. Charming, clever, funny and full of hopeful heart, making them a wonderful way to spend a few hours. In this book, Amanda Leighton is the heroine: well-educated, clever, determined and wholly unique, she’s wanting to be a tutor – but that isn’t something that ‘women do’, no matter how well-qualified they are. But, James is in need of a tutor – one determined and strong enough to bring his young twin boys into line, particularly as they are rampant hellions, constantly requiring his discipline. The boys, for their part, have decided that their Papa needs a wife, and they’ve written to Dear Lady Truelove – with their own very specific set of wishes. James lost his wife and in his grief he’s been emotionally withdrawn and not particularly attentive to his twin boys’ needs, at least not the emotional ones. A bit single-minded in his determination to ‘carry on’, he’s got only one wish – see the boys educated and behaving properly, allowing him to not revisit that well of despair when he thinks of their mother. Amanda is just what he and the boys need, and while this new tutor has horrible fashion sense and is rather short in their interactions, the boys are thriving and learning more than even he had hoped for. But there’s something not quite ‘masculine’ about the tutor – and when he realizes that the tutor he hired is in fact, a woman, he managed to not behave entirely true to form for his class, and he listened. He listened to Amanda’s reasons for continued opportunity to teach the boys, and while unexpected, her every reason made more sense than he expected. There’s also that little bonus that she’s adorable, and he’s intrigued by what he now sees as her humor and personality, as well as her brain. Oh this was cute – the slow awakening of James as he and Amanda flirt and explore emotions he ran from for so long. The Twins, so mischievous and clever – not particularly bad but full of energy, desperate for their father’s attentions and the love of a mother. This was an utterly charming title that bent the rules that had been in place for so long in British society, and totally showed the resilience of Amanda, the joy of the boys and the modernity in thinking of James, without venturing too far afield to lose the sense of time. Guhrke has created a lovely series here, full of unexpected charm, heart and characters, and I’m excited for the next. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
