About this ebook

This facsimile edition of Alex Josey’s Lee Kuan Yew: The Crucial Years (1968) contains practically everything that Singapore’s first prime minister had said politically since his student days at Cambridge right up to his speeches at the 1971 Commonwealth Prime Minister’s Conference held in Singapore. More than a political biography of a remarkable Asian statesman, this indispensable volume shows how Lee successfully created an independent multiracial nation while tackling and solving problems which confront all developing states. The account ends in 1970 when Singapore was faced with the gloomy prospect of the withdrawal of British troops in 1971, and the necessity of creating, almost overnight, a credible Singapore defence force.

It seems like there are some ppl who simply abuse the rating system to attack a man who is not in any position to defend himself as he has already pass on. Your views are yours, your words alone are a testimony of a type of person you are. People are reading your comments. Be sensible and read the book first. Do not let your mind be subjected to blind rhetoric and hatred. Do not let your name be attributed to something other than what is good. Seek to understand.

If you say without him theres no education, then your kowledge is limited. When he wasnt in power there already was school. What a load of crap! I have a feeling all of u are teachers cuz when i went past my education, i remembered the brutal abuse i faced and now my son is being killed by all the stress in university. When you say education, pleqse reflect that it is not a good thing in singapore.

using google book to read aloud, and its an informative book, about LKY early struggles 59-65, challenges and of course, this determination to drive out the British, which initially had no intention of leaving singapore, David Vetter -- you just described yourself.
