About this ebook

Finally, an eBook version of this now classic textbook has become available. Largely based on the 6th edition, published in 2000, this version is competitively priced. Written by well-known ecologist Eric R. Pianka, a student of the late Robert H. MacArthur, this timeless treatment of evolutionary ecology, first published in 1974, will endure for many decades to come. Basic principles of ecology are framed in an evolutionary perspective.

All too often concepts in evolutionary ecology are considered "closed off" and available only to the ecologists with enough academic prowess to understand them. Pianka's e-book changes that. This text is broad reaching and comprehensive yet simple and succinct, organized in a logical and organic way. Its availability now as an e-book means students in any field can easily access it (and search it). Finally, one can obtain a crash course of some of the most important concepts in ecology without leaving their desk. This book helped me (an archaeologist) tremendously in framing questions for my dissertation. Overall I find it a very useful reference which I will utilize for many years!
