About this ebook

There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.
At least, that's what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

First of all I have to say I am offended. The author portrayed a stereotype of South Carolinians that made us look like we were stuck in a fifties time warp and we are all unintelligent prejudice people. I guess that makes me dumb since I have lived in my small hometown in South Carolina all my life. Once I came to the realization the author is extremely liberal, I still tried to enjoy the book. Even putting that aside, the book lacked character dimension and offered nothing new in paranormal romance.

Beautiful Creatures is average. First of all, the story dragged on at times as it tried to convince us that "something" was going to happen. Most of the time the something hadn't been worth the anticipation or had simply been predictable. Secondly, while the book started off strong it lost of its intrigue and luster leaving me nor pleased nor discontent at the end. Except for few last minute convinient twists and turns nothing really blew my socks off. Nevertheless, Im still going to read BD.

While I hope there will be more background Information as to the caster culture, with precise definitions and lore in the sequels, the story could not be put down. Love the southern lifestyle culture mentioned. Still feel that some of the characters needed some more life and personality. Sometimes felt that Lenas character was too weak and fragile. But other than that, good story. Hope it builds up to greater and more substantial things!
