About this ebook

The women of The Homegrown Café Book Club are over 40, single, and loving it. Fate, however, has a different plan with a younger man for every last one of them.

After six broken engagements, butcher Petra Lochsley wants nothing to do with men and romance. Her hobbies include throwing axes, discussing books and having raunchy conversations with her middle-aged friends, and eating the occasional Boston cream doughnut—when the flirtatious baker doesn’t insist she prostitute herself for the decadent pleasure. One game of tongue hockey is enough with the guy she used to babysit. So what if he’s hot and is a good kisser?

Baker Auggie Hofmeier didn’t mean fall in love with or accidentally marry the butcher, but his heart seems to know what it’s doing. Besides, his new wife invited him home for a wedding night and more, that is, until the conniving interference by The Candlestick Maker, the old man who owns the shop he and Pet both want to buy, threatens their happily-ever-after. What’s a knave to do?

This story is for Petra (butcher) and Auggie (baker) and the fun situations and love Auggie feels for her trumps her attitude toward the marriage scene (six ex-fiancées). Love the banter in this series as all the ladies in the Club have sharp tongues and do not hesitate to tell the truth. Most of the trouble is from conniving people when things are going right for the first time their lives. Loved the characters and the storyline. Very interesting concepts and plans. The ending was perfect with their own little wedding cake. Well done. Can not wait to read more by this author. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I'm amazed being a butcher Petra received six proposals, not that it's not a good profession open to men and women who have the stomach and strength for it, but I would be afraid of retaliation with that meat cleaver. Baker Auggie has been teasing her for months with her favorite Boston cream desserts to get her attention. He's like the little boy who pulls the girls hair. Petra is not amused, but when she runs into her last ex fiance somehow she ends up married to Auggie. Like the other couples in this series their relationship is not smooth, but the blowbacks are funny with underwear strewn across his lawn and a food fight.

Petra and Auggie's Story . . . Petra saw two of her friends married to younger men, but she has had enough broken engagements to not let herself become reeled into that herself. But the baker, Auggie Hofmeier, has been interested in her a long time now. He has lured her in by refusing to sell her a favorite donut unless she gives him a kiss… and he’s quite good at it! When the storefront located between their shops goes on the market, there is a large amount of miscommunication. Even the friends get into it. A chivalrous act ends up in an unexpected marriage, and there is still no end to the hijinks! What was the old man who owns the candlestick shop up to anyway? This story line is filled with lots of happenings. Grab your copy and see if their marriage holds together with the rest of the surprises going on. There is never a dull moment here!
