I enjoyed reading this autobiography of a woman who lived and worked among prominent Mormons during the early years of the cult in Utah. The fact that she writes with seemingly equal upset over the murders committed by Mormons under direction of Brigham Young as her own being "stiffed" by the same in business transactions seems to me a most telling characteristic of a deluded cult member. I would recommend to readers pages 294-299 for a list of murders attributed to Utah Mormons and most especially pages 300-315 concerning the Mountain Meadows Massacre, which interestingly enough, she does not totally attribute to Brigham Young ordering it, but more lightly blames him for not preventing it; as he was the person in charge of maintaining the peace in the Utah territory at that time. Most of the book deals with Mrs. Stenhouse's experience as a woman under polygamy and how awful and degrading a practice it was for women. Once again, I think her ability to give equal or more weight to the wrongs of polygamy, shady business dealings, and frauds perpetrated by the cult leader Brigham Young to his ordering, condoning and/or overlooking murder by his followers quite odd.
