With a Master’s in History from Delhi University, Vipul Vijoy joined (1983) the Indian Police Service – the federal police of the Govt. of India – and was allotted the State of Gujarat. He served in various positions in the State as well as at the Centre and was decorated with both the Meritorious Service and the Distinguished Service medals. He retired as Director General of Police in 2018. In any part of the world, a career in Law Enforcement is challenging on account of the multifarious, often contradictory, pressures of upholding the oath to the nation’s Constitution and protecting the interests of various stakeholders. In trying professional and personal situations, Vijoy, always turned to the Bhagvad Gita which unfailingly came to his rescue. Widely travelled, Vijoy has either visited or lived in the following countries – Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Chinese Hong Kong & Macau, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Latvia, Mauritius, Nepal, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Seychelles, Switzerland, UK, and USA. He is fluent in English, Gujarati and Hindi and has a working knowledge of French, Sanskrit and Swedish.
