Beta by Jasinda Wilder was a crazy. Like crazy emotional and crazy violent with crazy people. It was emotionally charged from one end of the spectrum to the other. I was stunned at several points, freaked out at several points and a little turned on at times. And for some reason, Wilder’s books seem to have a positive affect on my husband (wink). After reading Alpha and being caught up in Roth and Kyrie’s relationship, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Beta. But then I read a couple of reviews. And waited. And thought about it. Because the reviews mentioned it being a little darker. A little edgy or raw, which made me nervous because I am an emotional person and feel everything I read. I finally decided to go for it even though I was a bit cautious. The reviews for Beta are not wrong. It is darker. It is edgy and raw. Some of the scenes were tough to take. The evil in a couple of these characters is incomprehensible but I have no doubt those types of people exist in this world (I hope I never meet anyone like them). What Wilder does with this story is phenomenal though. She is able to push the lines of the subject matter and turn it into love between two people that grows even stronger because of the horror they encountered. Roth and Kyrie go through some very nasty things. Things that would leave anyone broken. The love between Roth and Kyrie only goes stronger because of the hell they both are going through, had to go through to get back to where they want to be. They deal. They have never been dragged down lower than they are in this story so far. I am not sure I have ever read a story this deeply emotional before. I thoroughly enjoyed how Wilder writes the books in first person and we get to see both sides. We get to feel the anguish and despair through the eyes of the characters. But then we get to see hope and love and promise for what is left and what is still to come. Can you tell this book is slightly emotional? I still cant tell you if I actually liked the book or not. But it affected me. It makes me realize what I have in my life and the blessings I have been given. It makes me realize that love can conquer a whole hell of a lot of things. And it takes one step at a time to get through hell. I am a huge romantic suspense fan so I loved all the rescues that happened in this book. I can’t wait to see what Harris has up his sleeve for Omega and Alpha One Security. He rocks and is completely badass. I am so looking forward to the next story and I hope that Roth and Kyrie truly get their happy ever after and don’t have to spend the rest of their days running. If you like sexy, edgy, dark and emotionally raw stories, give this book a try. This book is not a stand alone, though, so you do need to read Alpha first.

I loved the book, but, I had to short it one star because of false info regarding guns. Im a gun lover and i cringed at the wording used. First: a "clip" is not what u think it is. It is NOT the long metal thing that holds the ammo and u slam it into the handle, that is a magazine or mag for short. A clip is literally a clip, mostly used with revolvers to reload all the rounds at once instead of one at a time. and ammo is not shells. shells would be the empty brass that comes flying out after the gun is fired. Ahhhhh, i feel better now. so next time u hear someone call a mag a clip, u can say no dumdass! Thats a mag!

First...I am biased & love all that is Valentine Roth. That said, I will do my best in my review of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it & the roller coaster ride the story takes you on. Kyrie's character has grown & become borderline femme fatale from the Alpha book. I did not like the cliffhanger ending, but understand why it's there.
