İslam âlimleri tarih boyunca sünneti koruma adına çok önemli metotlar geliştirmişlerdir ve bu metotlara dünya tarihi boyunca ulaşabilen hiçbir topluluk olmamıştır. Günümüzde teknoloji ve iletişim araçları gelişmesine rağmen, haber alma metotları İslam âlimlerinin sünneti tespit için geliştirdikleri sisteme ulaşamamıştır. Nitekim birçok haber yayınlandıktan çok kısa süre sonra bile yalanlanabilirken, sünnetin tespitinde böyle bir durum söz konusu değildir.
Aradan geçen bin dört yüz seneye rağmen bugün Peygamberimiz hakkında uydurulan haberlerin tespiti yapılmış ve doğru olanı yanlış olanından ayrılabilmiştir. Zaten İslam dininin en son din olma özelliği de bu gerçekle bağdaşmaktadır.
