The First Shot: Book One in The Lieutenant Kane Dedicated to Death Series

For Tampa homicide lieutenant Carl Kane, death is his life. If a single award existed for sinking himself into his work, he’d have two.

But the latest crime scene he’s called to, an old abandoned factory, leaves him with more bodies than leads. Three drug dealers are found shot to death—not an uncommon sight in the least. The problem lies with the pair of middle-aged women—bound, gagged, and executed—found at the same location.

Before he can sink his teeth into the initial investigation, Kane is called out to another multiple homicide. He comes up with only more questions when the second group of murders appears connected to the first.

As the lieutenant tracks down the few leads, he begins to get a clearer picture of those he seeks. That picture quickly turns crystal clear when Kane finds himself face-to-face with someone that “armed and dangerous” doesn’t even begin to describe.

I couldn't give a higher rating because of the gruesome violence. I like thrillers but this is worped. The writing is easy to read, a bit repetitive lyrics/dialogue, especially when characters introducing themselves. Real life is bad enough, don't need this heightened, sadistic crime events. I like suspense, waiting to see what comes next. But too much physco stuff. That part really put me off. I just finished the book, the first I've ever read by this author, but certainly won't be reading any more of his productions.

It's a good story, believable detective in Kane too but I found the excruciatingly mundane detail in the writers hand very hard to appreciate. Every action was overly described even as to the process of sitting down or closing a door. Made me feel like I was back at preschool where every minute simple detail was full of process, reason and specifics. Just got the feeling it was used to pad the word count.

A thriller with flat plot as things are going on and case is getting solved at a regular pase.... Moving interstate for the murderer but end up ..... So loosely write up as ending is not good after a thrilling action such a dip of plot

About the author

E.H. Reinhard was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He’s worked in sales in one form or another for the better part of eighteen years. Previous nine-to-fives include retail management, the auto industry, operating a small business, and running an assortment of entertainment websites that generated tens of millions of page views per month.

Reinhard has two completed series, The Cases if Lieutenant Kane Series and The Agent Hank Rawlings Series. His current work in progress is the Dedicated to Death Series, again featuring Lieutenant Carl Kane.

Reinhard now resides in sunny Tampa, Florida. When not putting pen to paper, or keys to keyboard, writing thrillers, he is an avid fisherman. So naturally, moving to the fishing capital of the world was a good fit. If you’re looking for him, he can usually be found on a boat, canoe, or casting from shore.
