Good but a cliffhanger. This is an entertaining, dystopian fantasy featuring a scrappy female Tracker, a position vital to the existence of each small unit of survivors after the dragon war and a rogue Dragon Warrior. A Tracker scours the surrounding countryside for anything which can contribute to the sustenance of the unit, primarily weapons, canned or dried food, and water. A Dragon Warrior is a genetically enhanced Marine specially bred to destroy the dragons. Sometime around 2012, the world was suddenly attacked by fire breathing dragons. They are resistant to most weapons but can be killed by brain death or decapitation. The final component in this nightmare world is the Marines. These no longer are the honorable fighters of Before, but instead plunder the survivors with impunity, taking supplies and bodies, living or dead, with consent of the law. 2 pieces of vital info are revealed toward the end of this book and then the cliffhanger. It's well written, tense, and rewarding.

I love this book!! it snagged my interest with the very first few pages and didn't let go. I plan to find any and all other books by Ms. MacLeod and read them as well. if you're looking for a fast paced, immensely descriptive tale with deep, complex, relatable characters then this is a good place to start. I believe you'll be hooked just as quickly and thoroughly as I have been. she ranks right up there with Christina feehan and sherrilyn Kenyon in my opinion. enjoy and happy reading!

fantastic start to a great story. Rain may have been born a lot of time after he died or almost died but she is his perfect match.
