《詩經》是中國最早的詩歌總集。《詩經》原本叫《詩》，共有詩歌305首（除此之外還有6篇有題目無內容,即有目無辭，稱為笙詩六篇。沒有內容的是南陔、白華、華黍、由庚、崇丘和由儀）[1]，因此又稱「詩三百」。[2]從漢朝起儒家將其奉為經典，因此稱為《詩經》。（正式使用《詩經》，應該起於南宋初年-屈萬里）。[3]漢朝毛亨、毛萇曾注釋《詩經》，因此又稱《毛詩》。《詩經》中的詩的作者，絕大部分已經無法考證。其所涉及的地域，主要是黃河流域，西起山西和甘肅東部，北到河北省西南，東至山東，南及江漢流域。
