The writing and presentation of the family stories and data is very clear and organized, and well documented. This is the first source that I have found that truly fills the gap on the fan chart prepared by my father, John Paul Dean, in the early part of the 20th century. He got no further than Mary (Polly) Russ and Alfred Loveland. I found Widow Loveland and her sons in original sources about 15 years ago, but could not establish the connection to Polly and Alfred.
The digitizing of these old volumes is extraordinarily useful as it permits us to locate them through the Google search. The icing on the cake is that the text is there also, and is both searchable and it can be excerpted and properly documented digitally. This volume is useful for researching the ways in which towns were initiated, settled, and governed, and by whom they were populated. An excellent research document in many respects, well beyond its usefulness as a family genealogy.
Many thanks to those pioneers who undertook to make this category of books available to the public on the Internet.

*Mary Warner Loveland, daughter of Alfred Loveland and Polly Russ (Rust) is my second great grandmother. As a city planner by profession, I have an interest in the social, cultural and political origins of American towns and cities, and the circumstances that led to our present day cities and the values that shape them. These old volumes are an invaluable resource.
