About the author

朱貞木，本名朱楨元，字式顓。浙江紹興人，20年代至40年代在天津電話局和日方電信公司工作，篆刻、詩書。文章俱佳，可稱藝文雙絕。

　　三十年代初，見同事李壽民撰寫《蜀山劍俠傳》，於是操刀進入武林俠壇。早期作品《飛天神龍》《煉魂谷》《豔魔島》系列，受還珠樓主影響甚深，後來自出新意，以《虎嘯龍吟》《七殺碑》《羅剎夫人》爲代表作。

　　朱貞木被後人稱爲「新派武俠小說之祖」，他的特點，在於集大成而予後來者以衆多的啓迪。其一是吸收奇幻派的瑰麗神奇於現實的江湖世相之中；其二是吸收俠情派的纏綿婉約於江湖的壯烈淒豔之中；其三是吸收曆史派的沈雄厚重於小說的虛構幻想之中；其四是在武功領域開創了許多奇功，爲後代所繼承；其五是「一床數好」和「衆女倒追男」的新派武俠模式。如此種種，均爲50年代以來港、台武俠小說作家群起仿效，曆久不衰。在作品序中中公開對其贊賞的武俠小說作者有古龍、司馬翎，其中古龍小說的詭異情節便深受朱貞木影響。
