Tessa a Joe are both DEA agents working together to find the persons responsible for getting syringes of heroin into the hands of middle school kids. The two have been best friends since they graduated the academy six years ago. They are now forced to pose as a married couple which has complicated their friendship by bringing out some deep held feelings. When the case becomes much more that just drugs on the streets, the two must continue their undercover identities and see the case through. Can these two continue to work together with their growing attraction? Can they find the root of the drug problem. Will Joe be able to keep Tessa's friendship if he turns away her love? As usual, Irving writes a riveting story of intrigue and suspense filled with great characters, plot twists, and heart pounding action. She writes such vivid descriptions that you are pulled into the story and feel like you are right there witnessing the action. I love the dynamic between Tessa and Joe. Their friendship is strong and shows through in everything they do. Joe is the ultimate protector which can cause problems when working with a kick a$$ female who can take care of herself. Joe is dealing with some major issues from the past regarding the death of his parents. Irving does a great job of dealing with his PTSD and current resistance to allow Tessa to be more than his friend. I'm always captivated by Irving's writing and this book is no exception. I received a review copy of this book from the author. I am voluntarily leaving a review.

About the author

A former US Navy Lt., Candace Irvin is the daughter of a librarian and a retired boatswain's mate chief. Candace grew up in the Philippines, Germany, and all over the United States. Her senior year of high school, she enlisted in the US Army. Following basic training, she transferred to the Navy's ROTC program at the University of Texas-Austin. While at UT, she spent a summer in Washington, DC, as a Congressional Intern. She also worked security for the UT Police. BA in Political Science in hand, Candace was commissioned as an ensign in the US Navy and sent to Surface Warfare Officer's School to learn to drive warships. From there, she followed her father to sea.
