About this ebook

Hit the road with Bud in this Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Award-winning classic about a boy on a journey to find his father—from Christopher Paul Curtis, recipient of the Coretta Scott King–Virginia Hamilton Award for Lifetime Achievement.

It’s 1936, in Flint Michigan. Times may be hard, and ten-year-old Bud may be a motherless boy on the run, but Bud’s got a few things going for him:

1. He has his own suitcase full of special things.
2. He’s the author of Bud Caldwell’s Rules and Things for Having a Funner Life and Making a Better Liar Out of Yourself.
3. His momma never told him who his father was, but she left a clue: flyers advertising Herman E. Calloway and his famous band, the Dusky Devastators of the Depression!!!!!!

Bud’s got an idea that those flyers will lead him to his father. Once he decides to hit the road to find this mystery man, nothing can stop him—not hunger, not fear, not vampires, not even Herman E. Calloway himself.

“[A] powerfully felt novel.” —The New York Times

Nostalgic and deeply appreciated as an adult. So many subtle scenes went over my head as a young child. This is raw, and hopeful. The end is lovely, and leaves you happy.

This is an excellent book! I read it when my child brought it in one day a few years ago. Honestly the author has a real talent for turning a phrase. There are phrases in this book that one or another character said that I use today. I can't remember the brother's name but he's getting in trouble and whenever he's going downstairs he says to his siblings, "yeah all the chihuahuas come out whenever the big dogs are down" I think this is so true! Lol Get this for your kids. Read it for yourself. Enjoy the myriad emotions on this journey with Buddy and his brave parents! I won't spoil it, but some real big stuff happens abd the opportunity is used for education. Beautiful.

A fantastic book. Highly recommend this magnificent novel if a boy name Bud, that doesn't like when people call him "Bud, not buddy." His mother died when he's very young, living in an orphanage and stays with mean adopters and was yelled at and various other terrible reasons and he's escapes to find his father. Phenomenal litture and one of my favorites! A magnificent book. This book overall is absolutely phenomenal. Highly recommended for readers and non-readers; recommend to everyone. The of "Bud, Not Buddy" and "The Watsons go to Birgham," and various other novels. (•‿•)
