The following poems were written primarily for children, although adults may find them of interest. The poems reflect the Appalachian culture and influence and the hard times that once existed and still does to some extent. The poems are about a growing-up experience of rural life in Appalachia.

About the author

Reverend Thompson graduated from Hamlin High School, Hamlin, West Virginia, in 1954 and, after a four-year enlistment in the US Army, attended and graduated from Alderson Broaddus College in 1963. He received his master of divinity degree from Crozer Theological Seminary in Rochester, New York, in 1966. He has done additional graduate study at the Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Center, Massachusetts. While in college and in seminary, Reverend Thompson served in churches as a student pastor and as an assistant to the pastor. He has held positions as pastor in West Virginia, Massachusetts, and has served as a minister of Christian education in Rhode Island. Rev. David Thompson has also served as a pastor in the United Church of Canada, Fenelon Falls, Ontario.
