About this ebook

“Rae Carson has proved she’s a master and has shaken up the YA genre.”—USAToday.com

The first book in Rae Carson’s award-winning and New York Times–bestselling trilogy! The Girl of Fire and Thorns is a sweeping journey full of adventure, sorcery, heartbreak, and power. Fans of Shadow & Bone and Game of Thrones, will devour this fantasy series.

Once a century, one person is chosen for greatness.

Elisa is the chosen one. But she has always felt powerless, useless. Now, on her sixteenth birthday, she has become the secret wife of a handsome and worldly king—a king whose country is in turmoil. A king who needs her to be the chosen one, not a failure of a princess.

And he’s not the only one who seeks her. Fierce enemies, seething with dark magic, are hunting her. A daring, determined revolutionary thinks she could be his people’s savior. Soon it is not just her life, but her very heart that is at stake.

Elisa could be everything to those who need her most. If the prophecy is fulfilled. If she finds the power deep within herself. If she doesn’t die young. Most of the chosen do.

I bought this based on the reviews listed here on Google Play. I still overall think it was a great read (took me maybe 7 hours) I wanted to offer a little more information. Some things I think should be mentioned: It is fantasy played out in a world that is a mixture of Spain, Mexico, and South America. This includes culture, and adherence to God and his scriptures. I liked it for it's newness, but the issue of the main character's weight was annoying and not very developed.

A thoroughly unique book. Carson diverged from the expected in several ways. I love that the heroine is overweight, realistically so. I also love the heroine's inner strength and her decisiveness. The story has a tone of mystery, where not everything is known. This works well with the political/court maneuvering that is so central to the plot. The romantic aspects of this story are not handled in the expected way either, which is refreshing. All in all, a thoroughly well crafted tale.

I am very picky about what I read, but this was actually a good book, definitely better than the hunger games and in a different universe completely from the awful tragedy of the twilight series. Expect a read about an unusual heroine who comes into her own, not with magical help, but with gifts she naturally possesses.
