I couldn't put this book down - it grabbed my attention from the very first page and kept it until the very end. This is a fast paced thriller that's a bit unusual in that we know who did it, but not how the chase will unfold. The author has crafted a tight woven story that fans of the genre will love. I've loved all of John Stanford's books! Some several times. Not one book have I put down and said no way. Please keep up the good writing. And than you for all you do and let's your readers be spellbound for hours.

I love John Sanford. And I love his books. Only once or twice have I had one that slightly disappointed. It seemed more slapstick and less....idk, real, than what is typical. Sanford usually has a way of working the funny parts in with the serious cop criminal story but this time it just seemed sloppy. Big clusters of jokes with big clusters of gory murders, and not much in between. Maybe it was too many characters, maybe it was the sloppy rushed plot. Idk. This one DID have its moments but unlike most Davenport / Flowers novels, it was missing being a whole experience. I also noticed what seemed like the authors fear of making the book too political one way or another. That always hurts the story when an author holds back. Making Virgil seem like a MAGA fan just to placate whatever readers needed that just served to make Virgil look very stupid, and we all know Virgil is a smart man. Not my favorite one, but not awful either. B- C+
