Katie Weber and Jamie Babcock have always had a connection. When they met, they were both still teenagers and Katie a minor, not to mention her father was a teammate of Babs for the Portland Storm. It was not the right time for them to be anything more than friends. When Katie was diagnosed with cancer, Babs was there as a friend while wishing he could be so much more. In Dropping Gloves, Katie returns to Portland to sing the national anthem at Hockey Fights Cancer night and she not only realizes she misses her family, but most importantly, she realizes she misses Jamie. Jamie missed her equally as much, but he’s not sure he can take having his heart trampled on again by the woman he loves with all of his heart when she leaves again – and he’s sure she’s going to leave again. After telling her how he feels, Katie has to make the decision about what she wants to follow, her dreams or her heart. We’ve seen potential for this romance over several books and it’s one we’ve all been waiting for. The wait is over and what a fantastic ride it was! It was emotional, sweet, raw, and it gives you hope – hope that love like this exists and that the person you love will truly stand with you

Katie Weber headed to LA after high school to follow her dream.  She was one of the lucky ones who landed her big break and starred on a popular series as soon as she hit Tinseltown. Like so many starlets, reality was a lot different than the dream. Now she's questioning what her dream is? Jamie Babcock doesn't question his dream: he's been playing in the NHL since he was 18. When Katie graduated high school Jamie knew he had to let her go even though he wanted her to stay. Every time she's come back to Portland its been like ripping the band-aid off. Katie comes home for a weekend that alters the course of her life. She decides to stay in Portland while she figures out the next step in her career. No one expects Katie will have to fight cancer a second time and she is old enough to make her own decisions this time. Jamie vows to be by Katie's side throughout her fight but it is hard to do so during hockey season. Dropping Gloves is the latest is Catherine Gayles' Portland Storm series. I love a good series where the recurring characters feel like family. That being said there is always the question of whether you can jump into the later books. This story will stand on its own

The wait is over; Babs and Katie get their story!! Ms. Gayle delivers a romance that starts as a sweet young love and blossoms into a mature young adult romance. I adore Jamie Babcock aka Babs. He is still the same sweet young man we met in Breakaway, with just one difference he grown into his role on the hockey team and is a force to be reckon with. Katie is grown up and has lived a life that many would dream to live but sometimes the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. When Katie returns to Portland she realizes that many don’t always get a second chance and it’s either fight like there is no tomorrow or throw in the towel. Babs and Katie’s story was everything fabulous. My book world is happy!
