কোনদিন ভাবিনি ছড়া লিখবো। ছড়া যে নিতান্তই ছেলেমানুষী ছন্দ মিলানো নয়, সে কথাটাও কখনো সিরিয়াসলি ভাবিনি। এই অজানা রাজ্যে অ্যাডভেঞ্চার শুরু করার মূলে রয়েছে একটি ছোট্ট মেয়ে বৃষ্টি রায়, যার আবদার মেটাতে গিয়ে অনভ্যস্ত হাতে ছড়া লিখতে শুরু করি। সে প্রায় দেড় বছর আগের কথা। প্রথম প্রথম ছন্দ মেলানোতেই বেশী নজর দিতাম, কিন্তু ক্রমশঃ ছড়ার অন্তর্নিহিত শক্তির আভাষ পেতে শুরু করি। একসময় বুঝতে পারলাম ছড়ার সহজ ছন্দের আড়ালে লুকিয়ে রয়েছে একটা প্রচণ্ড ক্ষমতা। কখনো তা তীক্ষ্ণ স্যাটায়ারের, কখনো তা চোখে আঙুল দিয়ে সত্যকে দেখানো প্রচারকের, কখনো বা বাচ্চাদের সরল প্রশ্নের আকারে আমাদের অন্ধবিশ্বাসের বিরুদ্ধে ছুঁড়ে দেওয়া উদ্যত চ্যালেঞ্জের। এটা বোঝার পরই ছড়া লেখার মজাটা পেতে শুরু করি। বিগত দেড় বছর ধরে বিভিন্ন ধরণের ছড়া লিখে গেছি, যার অনেকগুলোই ফেসবুকে প্রকাশিত হয়েছে। সেই ছড়াগুলির সঙ্গে আরো কয়েকটি নিয়ে বন্ধুবর স্বনামধন্য প্লাস্টিক সার্জন ও ঔপন্যাসিক অনিরুদ্ধ বসুর আগ্রহে এবং স্মৃতি পাবলিশার্স-এর কর্ণধার শ্রীমতি স্মৃতি বসুর ঐকান্তিক সহায়তায় একশোটির বেশী ছড়ার একটি সংগ্রহ এই বইটির আকারে প্রকাশিত হতে চলেছে ।

About the author

 The author Asis Kumar Chatterjee is a doctor, a Gynaecologist by profession. Brought up in the industrial city of Durgapur, West Bengal he has studied Medicine at Calcutta Medical College. After completion of his studies he has returned back to his roots in Durgapur, & has joined Durgapur Steel Plant Hospital as a Gynaecologist.

Dr. Chatterjee is a multi-faceted personality. Apart from being a very popular and highly successful Gynaecologist, he is a well-known photographer, poet, and short story writer. But his most important quality is his thirst for knowing his own country, his own culture, his own people. This thirst has led him to travel extensively both within and outside his state and country. He is considered an expert on Bengal temples because of his extensive knowledge on this subject which he acquired mostly by visiting & photographing the temples in almost every nook & corner of West Bengal.

An ardent lover of the Himalayas, he likes to travel to the Himalayas whenever he can manage a little time in his busy schedule. He is also a serious student of Indian scriptures likeUpanishads. Many of his writings bear the evidence of his deep love & respect for the Himalayas and the scriptures.

Dr. Chatterjee has a book of short stories and a book of poems, both in vernacular, published. He regularly writes articles in English accompanied by excellent photographs on different subjects, which throw lights on India and Indian culture. Many of these writings are published in newspapers of repute like The Statesman and internet sites like http://drasiskchatterji.hubpages.com.

“CHARAIBETI” is his first novel, which deals with a rare subject in a very different way.
