About this ebook

“For sheer adventure L’Amour is in top form.”—Kirkus Reviews

Here is the kind of authentically detailed epic novel that has become Louis L’Amour’s hallmark. It is the compelling story of U.S. Air Force Major Joe Mack, a man born out of time. When his experimental aircraft is forced down in Russia and he escapes a Soviet prison camp, he must call upon the ancient skills of his Indian forebears to survive the vast Siberian wilderness. Only one route lies open to Mack: the path of his ancestors, overland to the Bering Strait and across the sea to America. But in pursuit is a legendary tracker, the Yakut native Alekhin, who knows every square foot of the icy frontier—and who knows that to trap his quarry he must think like a Sioux.

Fabulous! Love the descriptions and details of the landscapes his character passes through. It's almost tangible! One can feel the cold seep into the bones; can smell the forest, hear the silence when he stops to listen. And glean an insight into centuries of oppression which hasn't brought peace, only distrust, dishonesty and suspicion. I would have loved to have been able to read a sequel, to see how or where he found Natalya and when and how he caught up with Zamatev again!

Joe Mack is in the US Air Force and ends up in a Soviet Prison Camp. He escapes (I love how he escapes) and has to rely on his Sioux Indian heritage to survive the Siberian wilderness, all the while being tracked by the enemy. An amazing story!! Highly recommended by me!

Really excellent book!!! Just wish the ending could have been less rushed. But I was hoping for a resolve with Natalya, to know that she made out alive like he did. Not a happy happy ending but resolution. That he was NOT the last of the breed.
