As a student in a book club, my teacher told me to read Elijah of Buxton. I started to read, but could not focus. The language they used in the book was confusing. You really have to have background knowledge on slavery and cruelness before you read the book. I love reading books, but I was not captured by this one. I'm around Middle School, and this book didn't appeal to me. It's really slow throughout the book until you have around eight chapters left. The description does not tell what really happens throughout the book, and when the stuff it describes happens, it isn't exciting. There is very little excitement in this book. I think older children around the age of 16 and up would enjoy this book. I recommend this for people that like classic books, because Elijah of Buxton shares that format. Overall, this book is not for everyone, but well displays slavery and what life was like back then.
