Shadowed Rubies This is definitely one of my favorite books in the series so far. It starts out in quite the dramatic fashion, but then it slowly morphs into something sweeter and more angsty. Max and Dani are kind of adorable together, and I love that the story gives Max a chance with his high school crush. Dani’s crippling insecurities hurt my heart because I can so easily relate to her feelings. I appreciated the way the author has Max showing his support and loving her through them. I’m very interested in seeing where the next book will take us. Shocking Sapphires The cliff we’re left hanging from at the end of this book is sudden and it is steep. So, please take note if that’s a deal breaker for you. Like pretty much all of the books that have preceded it in the series, the central plot of the book is wrapped up, but the author throws us one last curveball before closing the cover. This book takes on so much and does it all with remarkable charm and skill. From parental rights, to the price of celebrity, to advocacy for the differently abled; Molly and Grant’s story was an emotional roller-coaster that made me think as much as it asked me to feel. I was in awe of Molly’s caring, generous nature. And I loved how honest Grant’s reactions felt. Very little about their situation is sunshine and roses and the author shows us the nitty gritty as well as the flirty and silly. Now I’m left with my head spinning and desperate to know what happens next. Shaded Amethysts This wasn’t my favorite book in the series. It reminds me a lot of the reactions I had to Shimmering Emeralds (book 3 of the series), and for several of the same reasons. I don’t know that I can really call them continuity errors, but real life just doesn’t work the way this book suggests it does. Each time fantasy trumped reality, I was left snarling in frustration. Even in a small town, the legal system, including the police and child protective services, would never operate like this. I was also confused by who Avery is in this book. The woman I remember from the beginning of the series was happy to tell the gossiping old biddies where to go and how to get there. She certainly wasn’t this woman, constantly bowing to maternal pressure. One thing I was very glad to see was that even though this is tagged as a “love triangle” story, it really doesn’t read like one. Avery knows her choice fairly early on and most of her actions support that choice throughout the book. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.

Not Quite My Cuppa I have read several of this author's other books and enjoyed them. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about this set of books. I hadn't read the previous three of the Brunswick Bay Harbor series, but that wouldn’t have made a difference. I was essentially hoping for just some nice small-town romances, but these books had an edge that I wasn't prepared for and didn't like. As we've moved through this global crisis in the past year, I find my taste in books has changed. I want sweetness and light... none of the nitty-gritty that I see too much of in real life as an RN. To me, this set of books just had too much unpleasantness going on, like kidnapping, fires, abandoned babies, and so on. The author is a talented writer, but this particular collection is not my cup of tea. I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

These are good small town romances. This includes "Shadowed Rubies", "Shocking Sapphires" and "Shaded Amethysts". They are stand alone reads taking place in Brunswick Bay Harbor in Maryland. The characters are likable and interesting. Through tragedy they find love and happiness. I really liked all the stories in this series not just these three.

About the author

Ann Omasta is a USA Today bestselling author.

Ann’s Top Ten list of likes, dislikes, and oddities:

1.     I despise whipped cream. There, I admitted it in writing. Let the ridiculing begin.

2.     Even though I have lived as far south as Key Largo, Florida, and as far north as Maine, I landed in the middle.

3.     If I don't make a conscious effort not to, I will drink nothing but tea morning, noon, and night. Hot tea, sweet tea, green tea––I love it all.

4.     There doesn't seem to be much in life that is better than coming home to a couple of big dogs who are overjoyed to see me. My other family members usually show significantly less enthusiasm about my return.

5.     Singing in my bestest, loudest voice does not make my family put on their happy faces. This includes the big, loving dogs referenced above.

6.     Yes, I am aware that bestest is not a word.

7.     Dorothy was right. There's no place like home.

8.     All of the numerous bottles in my shower must be lined up with their labels facing out. It makes me feel a little like Julia Roberts' mean husband from the movie Sleeping with the Enemy, but I can't seem to control this particular quirk.

9.     I love, love, love finding a great bargain!

10.  Did I mention that I hate whipped cream? It makes my stomach churn to look at it, touch it, smell it, or even think about it. Great––now I'm thinking about it. Ick!
