這是《燃燈者》一書的作者趙越勝第二部散文集。 如揚之水(趙麗雅)所說，趙越勝的文字好看，激情是它的特色之一，談文學，談音樂，都如此。又因為作者的專業本是哲學，有沉靜、睿智為底色，激情便從不至於「文藝化」。不論音樂與文學，評論，大多是「外國的月亮」，卻又懷抱了「一顆中國心」，創意造言，每取自中國古典文學的寶庫。於是古今中外融為一爐，一枝筆或挾風霜，或染五色，雨驚雲落，星斗交輝，引領看官歌哭於精神漫遊之所。這是它獨特的魅力，而且保持至今。
About the author
趙越勝，人文學者。1978年進中國社會科學院哲學研究所，參加籌辦《國內哲學動態》。1979年進社科院研究生院，讀現代西方哲學，後獲碩士學位。1982年進社科院哲學研究所現代西方哲學研究室。其創辦的文化沙龍，對1980年代中國大陸影響深遠。為「文化：中國與世界」編委會核心成員。1989年，移居法國。牛津版作品有《燃燈者》《精神漫遊》《蒼雲遠道》《既見君子》等。
