I liked this. It's darker than the author's other works and for this installment, I don't think you'll get much satisfaction of any happy time (unless you're ok with the triggers). I was more impressed with the way I could fill in the blanks when it came to living in this world of military tools and the secrecy of what's been going on to these soldiers. I enjoyed watching the struggle to understand if they were men or machines and I liked seeing the thought process go through Ax2's brain.

Protector: Rage is the first book in the Protector series. It is not what I expected. The storyline has a bit of a supernatural-paranormal bent but from a scientific perspective. It is an interesting storyline with AX2, whose name I hope we discover in future books, and his mad scientist, Addie, who find themselves not only at odds, but also fiercely drawn to each other. I knew before starting this book that it was going to end in a cliffhanger and it’s a brilliant but totally expected one. What I wasn’t expecting before I started reading was how short the book was and how disjointed it feels. I know it’s the first book in the series and you expect it to set the stage for the whole story and yes I did spend 99.9% of the book absolutely hating Addie and how she views what she has done, but the book left me feeling cold. It was hard to get into if I’m honest
