বইটির মূল বিষয়বস্তু মা-বাবা। এ বিষয়ে অনেক বই রয়েছে। মা-বাবার হক্ বা কর্তব্য বিষয়ক অন্যান্য বই-এর মতো এটি নয়। সমাজের জন্য এটি অত্যন্ত প্রয়োজনীয়। লেখক মা-বাবা প্রসঙ্গে একটা গবেষণামূলক ব্যতিক্রমধর্মী জরিপও সংবাদপত্রে প্রকাশ করেছিলেন। আসলেও যে সব মা-বাবা অতি বৃদ্ধ বয়সে অচল-অসহায় হয়ে পড়ে। নড়াচড়ারও ক্ষমতা থাকে না। তখন তাঁদের পরিচর্যা ও দেখাশোনার বিষয়টি গুরুত্ব পেয়ে বসে। ঐ সময় এ ব্যাপারে উপেক্ষিত হলেই তাঁদের চরম দুর্ভোগ পোহাতে হয়। এজন্যই তাঁদেরকে নিগৃহীত হওয়ার কথা উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে।গ্রন্থটি মাতা-পিতার প্রতি সৎ-ব্যবহার এবং কর্তব্য সম্পর্কে সবাইকে সচেতন করার একটি সৎ-প্রচেষ্টা। এতে অসৎ বা দুর্ব্যবহারের কিছু প্রতিক্রিয়ার কথাও তুলে ধরা আছে। পবিত্র কোরআন এবং হাদীসসমূহ থেকে অনেক উদ্ধৃতি দিয়ে বিস্তৃত আলোচনা, মাতা-পিতার অবস্থান এই পুস্তকে সন্দেহাতীত করে তুলেছে।
