Welcome back to Copper Ridge when you fall in love just as quickly with the town as the characters that Yates develops for her readers. The scene development is vivid and really brings this small town to life. The plot was sizzling hot and a lot of fun, while also emotional and at times shocking. I enjoyed seeing this other side of Maddy and learning about her history. It was shocking yet really allowed me to understand who she was and how she became the person that we've come to know throughout the series. Her hard edges are quite interesting and add so many dimensions to who she is. And the way that she interacted with Sam? (Who's definitely swoon-worthy all on his own in all his damaged cowboy glory). The two of these two were explosive together. This was a fantastic addition to the Copper Ridge series. It adds a lot of background to characters that returning readers have come to know and love and is a great introduction for those new to the series.
