For being written a hundred years ago, these were good stories. In their original form, most people are going to have trouble with the writing feeling dated but beyond that they are a great fantasy story, worthy of the huge budgeted sci-fi due out in a few weeks. Just like Verne discribed submarine and space travel decades before it actually happened, Burroughs describes a terraforming plant long before the idea became popular. Three decades before the creation of the Man of Steel, Burroughs also set John Carter up like Superman, a man of average abilities becoming a superpowered being because of the conditions on another planet.

Three great volumes with equally great stories. True stories and great adventures cannot be abridged on the big screen and yet truly fully experienced. ERB has a vivid imagination and keeps your attention throughout as he builds John Carter's legend with great details and lots of action!
