About this ebook

In Sophia Henry’s blistering follow-up to Delayed Penalty, hailed as “sexy, fun, and full of angst” by L. P. Dover, a good girl and a hockey hunk face off against expectations—and this match is guaranteed to see plenty of action.

Beneath her innocent facade, Gabriella Bertucci has her reasons to be standoffish with guys. Especially guys like Landon Taylor, a star defenseman on the minor-league Detroit Pilots and the object of a serious crush since he first walked into her family’s market. But when Landon comes through for her in a moment of crisis, Gaby starts to wonder if there might be more to Landon than hard muscles and fast skates.

Landon isn’t afraid of telling Gaby that he’s got it for her bad. The problem is, she seems unwilling to believe it. And though Landon enjoys his reputation as a cool-headed athlete, he hates losing—both on the rink and off. It’s his competitiveness that makes him so damn good at what he does . . . but it also makes him just a little bit complicated.

One minute Gaby’s tempted to give in; the next, she’s getting cold feet. How can she trust a guy who’s destined for bigger and better things to stick around? Then again, when Landon pulls her close with those powerful arms, the only thing that matters is right now.

Gabby and Landon have known each other since they were young. Both of them have had a crush on each other for years but neither one of them has acted on it. Landon is a minor league hockey player trying to make it to the NHL. While he is shopping one day in Gaby’s family store, her father has a heart attack. Landon is quick to help and support Gaby during this crisis. During this time they both finally admit they have feelings for each other. But having been raped three years ago, Gaby is a little apprehensive about starting a relationship. When Landon learns what happened to Gaby, he takes things slow. I did not like the way Gaby was treated by her father. Even though she was more qualified to manage the store while he was incapacitated, he had his son return so he could take over. It was clear he knew nothing about running the store. It was like because she was a female she can’t be in charge. Gaby just did what her family told her to do. She had no backbone where her family was concerned. While this book was ok, there was just something missing. There was the typical ups and downs between the characters but it was a little slow at times and I did not really feel a connection between Gaby and Landon. This feels more like a teenage love, but then again they are only in their 20's. There was no spark. However I would still give this author another try to wow me.

Great read Great read. Gaby is a strong woman who is trying to get noticed by her family, that she can run the family business which she has been doing for years. Plus she just happens to find out the Landon who she has known for years and she has had a crush on me have also noticed her. Will it be love or is he just having some fun. Will Things that happened in Gaby's past come between them, will their family come between them or their family issues. This is a new to me author but was a great read and I am looking forward to reading some other books from this author.

I went into this story with an open mind. Power Play was written by an author who centered the story around my home state of Michigan. I loved that because it made me feel like a part of the action when areas I have been and seen were referenced in the story. The bones of this novel were workable. It was obvious Landon cared about Gaby, just not in a romantic way. What I did like is that he was the one person who had her back and did not treat her like a victim. I received an ARC of Power Play in exchange for an honest review.

About the author

Sophia Henry, a proud Detroit native, fell in love with reading, writing, and hockey all before she became a teenager. She did not, however, fall in love with snow. So after graduating with an English degree from Central Michigan University, she moved to North Carolina, where she spends her time writing books featuring hockey-playing heroes, chasing her two high-energy sons, watching her beloved Detroit Red Wings, and rocking out at concerts with her husband.
