ARC for honest review with no compensation Received from Prolific 4.5 stars The Cupcake Cottage is book 1 in the new series Hockey Sweethearts by Jean Oram. This sweet, romantic read is well written with lots of depth to the story. You can’t go wrong with any book written by Ms. Oram! Even though this is the start of a new series we get to see old friends from prior series too! We start with Daisy Mae, Maverick and Myles who have grown up together and now Maverick decides it time to step it up to win Daisy Mae’s heart…read on to see how it all ends…

Daisy-Mae seemed to have a lot of jobs and I wondered if that was because she couldn’t figure out what she liked. She did like crushing on the hockey players with Violet especially her ex’s friend Maverick. She was pretty gutsy at times in the book, speaking up for what she thought was right or not, so I was surprised she wasn’t more vocal with Maverick about what was wrong with their romance. It started out as a publicity stunt, but real feelings emerged and still she keep feeling uncertain and insecure. It didn’t help that she had a brash mother who wanted her to manipulate men to get ahead and pounced on Daisy-Mae during signs of trouble. Maverick assumed he was doing what was best for them financially while Daisy-Mae was feeling like they were on their way to a breakup. I admired him for assisting another who was being abused even at the risk to his career.

The first book in the Hockey Sweethearts series. Daisy-Mae Ray and Maverick Blades, number 53, captain of the San Antonio Dragons. have a history she is his best friends ex. he needs help with his image and she comes to his rescue. I enjoyed seeing these two with all their ups and downs get a HEA. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
