In an unnamed city, a violent turf war has broken out between a pair of gang bosses: Big Eddie (Bradford Dillman) and Uncle Frank (Edmond O'Brien). Uncle Frank is prompted to hire notorious hit man Harry Crown (Richard Harris). Not to be outdone, Big Eddie hires an assassin of his own, Marvin "Claw" Zuckerman (Chuck Connors), who previously lost a hand to Crown and has sworn revenge. When the two killers collide, the murder and mayhem escalates rapidly.
