There are 6000 languages spoken on Earth but they all have one thing in common, they are all spoken by people. This, as with the Issac Asimov book 'The Gods Themselves', addresses the simple principal, overlooked by nearly all Sci-Fi, of how do you know what any other species could possibly want when there is no common language and no common grounds on which to establish any communication and the zenophobia that engenders. Unfortunately what let it down for me was the rather poor sound quality; there is an inherent irony in a film about communication when you cannot hear what the protagonists are saying.

Tedious. Slow moving, overacted, very PC - why was Jeremy Renner ridiculously underused to push the awful Amy Whatsername. Same old story with aliens. Boring. And the usual drivel from it's supporters "You need to be intelligent like us to enjoy the movie" Nope, thats the Emperors New Clothes logic. You think you're fantastically kitted out while you're naked. Its a runt of a movie. One of the most boring Sci Fi movies ever

Slow moving dull movie. Got bored half way through. Way too much time spent watching aliens squirting blobs of black stuff out of tentacles and magically learning how to read like it's their first day at school. Tries to be intellectual with a few tidbits about how they decode language which I found to be generally unconvincing and shallow but others seem to find satisfying. Would suit a book maybe more than a movie.
