Best conceptually realistic independent film I have seen in a long time. It was not just the imaginative and playful premise coupled with the reality of "our world" as translated by the inhabitants of The Bathtub - it is particularly the objective of Hush Puppy that struck me to the core. The writers were able to pinpoint the exact thought and feel a six-year-old may experience if her life were indeed similar to the film portrayal. It certainly spoke to the turmoils of my own childhood, and forced me to reexamine my ideas of strength and love. Try not to simply focus on the idea of poverty in the south, or the alternative view of destruction left by Katrina - there are moments of pure poetry and truthfulness here; if you look too closely at the bigger picture, you will miss the intimacy of the most intricate details. <3

The six year old star of this movie is an acting miracle. Her sensitivity to interpreting her role is normally seen only in an adult actress. The story line is not easy to tell. Poor people losing what little they have due to the machinations of the powers that be.
