True story's are tough because real life just isn't that exciting, well this time it is. They could of and should of made this a series instead of one movie. Too much story for one movie and that's why many feel it was too scattered. I still give it five stars. I witness the real Whitey Bulger and Depp played him perfectly. So we'll that it gave me chills....

The fact that this movie was completely snubbed by the Oscars is nothing short of a travesty and truly makes you wonder what the critics and people who decide such things are thinking.... The total transformation of character, spot on accent, and truly gripping acting should have made at least 4 nominations for prestigious categories. Going from Captain* Jack Sparrow and the mad hatter to a terrifying doppelganger ofWhitey Bulger should have left Depp with a slew of nominations and finally a win; whether he wants it or not.

I went in to this knowing next to nothing about James "Whitey" Bulger, my only reason for seeing it was to witness what appeared in the trailers to be a fantastic performance by Depp. I was not disappointed. The story itself was very intriguing but it was Depp's acting that stole the show. To see him in one film as a zany pirate or a mad hatter is one thing, to witness him become menacing and completely become Bulger is quite another. The family recipe scene itself should have earned him an Oscar nomination
