Acerca de esta película

Captain Phillips is a multi-layered examination of the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates. Based on a true story, the film focuses on the Alabama’s commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips (two-time Academy Award®-winner Tom Hanks, Best Actor, 1993, Philadelphia; Best Actor, 1994, Forrest Gump), and the Somali pirate captain, Muse (Barkhad Abdi), who takes him hostage. The two men are set on an unstoppable collision course when Muse and his crew target Phillips’ unarmed ship; in the ensuing standoff, both men will find themselves at the mercy of forces beyond their control.

As a 'first time' viewer of rental content on Google Play, I redeemed an offer for 75% off my first movie rental. I choose the digital movie, CAPTAIN PHILLIPS to watch on the Google Play Roku channel. After numerous attempts to watch the movie, it continuously buffered every few movies. *Was not able to watch beyond 15 minutes into the movie because of the constant buffering disruptions. I have never experienced this problem on other Roku movie subscription channels. After the first three failures, I wanted to "test" my Roku device to see if the buffering problem affected another movie channel. It did not. In fact, I was successful watching a movie on the Roku Amazon channel with absolutely NO buffering. I was hoping that I could include the Google Play channel on Roku as another option for movies I'd want to purchase or rent. Disappointed that that the Google Play channel on ROKU does not function. Hoping Google will fix this problem.

Movie adapted simple story line without taking too much artistic credit. The movie favors more realistic approaches from interactions between the individuals. So, you're not going to see the "hero" beaten to a pulp, only to rise up and kill multiple bad guys. Which was refreshing for a movie "based on a true story", considering most of them are extremely liberal with adding to the story for sake of Action. Overall, acting was very good, as was story.

I really plan on seeing Captain Phillips, however more then likely I will see it once it's on DVD. Not much in going to the theater, they want a little too much to watch one movie, and you have to sit through commercial these days. From what it look like it is a good job by Mr. Hanks. And the newcomers they all did a great job as well.
