Of her three books, I've always thought her first book -- Sharp Objects -- is the outstanding example of Gillian Flynn's storytelling. Dark Places was a difficult read, for the same reason its film adaptation is difficult, because of the dual points of view that shifts the reader between past and present. The film leaves out so much detail that helps the reader to really invest in Libby Day. This is no Gone Girl.

Meh. Not a horrible movie by any stretch of the imagination.. but one of those where afterwards your like, "I bet the book was good." yet the movie.. in a couple days you won't even remember the plot.

As always the book was SO much better, and it would not have been impossible for them to recreate it. But, once again Hollywood failed to do right. 😞
